Explore Erfoud

Erfoud is an area in Morocco which is fondly named the “Gate of the Sahara Desert,” this is the ideal stop over point if you want to explore the town and surrounding area, soaking up some of the traditions, culture and beauty.

Erfoud is also known for the number of films which have been made here including The Mummy and the Prince of Persia. There are a number of sites to explore that is guaranteed to keep you amazed during your stay here on your Morocco tour.

The Royal Palace
The Royal Palace is the only royal palace in the Sahara Desert. While access is forbidden, you can wander around the building, soak up some of the architecture and be amazed by the magnificent of the structure.

The Souk
The souks, traditional market, are alive with activity and color. They provide an opportunity to purchase a selection of traditional items to take home with you from jewelry to clothing and leather goods to carpets and rugs.

Jewish Cemetery
Wander through the cemetery, pay your respects at the graveyard or stop in at the mausoleum. The Jewish Cemetery is a popular site when visiting Erfoud.

Borj-Est Hill
Enjoy spectacular views of Erfoud and beyond from this hill which houses military buildings. The ideal stop at sunset as the dunes glow orange and the sky comes alive.

Maadid
Maadid is an ancient village complete with narrow streets and impressive architecture. It’s well worth stopping here and having a look around, soak up some history and experience the past.

Erg Chebbi
Erg Chebbi is one of the most popular sites in Morocco and is only thirty five kilometers from Erfoud. This is one of the biggest dunes in the Sahara Desert and when visiting the dune you can also stop in at the selection of villages in the desert to see and experience what it must be like to live in this beautiful place.
