Our trip was wonderful! Everything was lovely! Our driver was very good, the accommodations were perfect, our guides were great (only one was not so good at Ait Benhaddou), and we experienced a lot. It gave us more understanding of a Muslim country than our western minds had before. People were wonderful, gracious and friendly. We just loved it. It is hard to zero in on a few highlights, but I will try. First, the surprise luxury and special extras at the Sofitel in Casablanca. Thank you! That was the way to go! Very special. Each place was so different and fascinating, Rabat, Chefchoun, Fez. Fez was like the ultimate Morocco and Riad Fez a jewel. At Kasbah Xaluca a camel driver brought in four baby camels!
The desert was wonderful, every moment. It has been my dream to ride a camel in the Sahara, since reading Michner’s Caravans and Desert Queen by Janet Wallach. I had to. The whole time was just wonderful. Next at Rissani things were especially colorful. Our Tuarig guide took us through the markets, the sheep market, the donkey parking lot, the huge selection of fresh foods.
It was great. Then on to the High Atlas. Beautiful and exciting. Next, Marrakesh, the Majorelle Gardens, Marrakesh Museum, Ben Youssef Madersa, and La Mamounia and gardens. I’m sure there was much more. Essaouira was a favorite place, smaller, cooler, an easier medina to explore, with a harbor and sea view. We will remember lots of cats, Gnaoua background music and the muezzins calls to prayers. Also the masterful Zellig tile work, pottery and beauty of decorations everywhere. There is so much to remember, the kasbahs of sandstone with crenellated tops that seem to be of many ages past. I can’t leave out the hammams! We did it.
And, your service was great.
Thanks for everything.
