We thoroughly enjoyed our Moroccan adventure, which was quite different from other overseas trips we’ve had. Younes, our driver was great. The roads are challenging and we were very glad not to have to drive, particularly as in New Zealand we drive on the left. Pedestrian crossings, road lanes and roundabouts work differently too!
Our favourite location was where we stayed the night in the Sahara Desert Berber tents near Erfoud. Very nice welcoming people, a beautiful night sky, and a fun camel ride to see the sunrise.
The accommodation was of a high standard. Our only suggestion is that when staying at the Hotel Le Berbère Palace in Ouarzazate the evening meal be away from the hotel. We thought the buffet experience was impersonal and too “western”. The hotel accommodation itself was fine.
We modified our itinerary in Marrakesh and decided we were happy just to explore locally rather than drive to Essaouira, and we spent extra time exploring the souks instead.
Overall, a fascinating trip.
