There were so many highlights to choose from! Our driver, Mohamed Laaziz, was definitely a highlight: what a terrific guide and a true friend! In terms of places visited, I would choose four: the city of Fez (far easier for walking than in frenzied Marrakech with its zillions of cars and motor bikes); the Sahara dunes, which we visited by 4×4 vehicle; Ait Ben Haddou (such a stunning location); and Essaouira, which was beautiful and a relaxing way to conclude the trip. But everything else was great, too!
Our driver was just superb. Mohamed was an expert driver, very knowledgeable, quick with good recommendations, but flexible whenever we wanted to do something else. Introduced us to some great Moroccan music, too. Simply the best friend you could have in Morocco!
Essaouira (despite the musty room) is a very special place and provides a great balance to the other locations on our Classic tour. I’m so glad we added it. Also, the coastal drive on the way back, especially El Jadida, is really interesting.
Near Essaouira, the Fromagerie is a great place for lunch. Excellent food prepared by the charming owners, including a variety of homemade cheeses — goat, cow, and soon-to-be camel cheese, too! A good suggestion for getting out of town easily.
