The trip was wonderful and exactly what I wanted to experience. Having been to Morocco previously it was nice to be able to relax and enjoy the drives, the views, the accommodations, the food, and the excellent hospitality. All the accommodations were comfortable and convenient. But, my favorite was the Widiane Resort. The views from the balcony made the whole trip for me. Paul and I had a great time rocking down the highway with Rachid’s playlist. The landscapes in the Atlas are beautiful. I think many visitors to Morocco miss seeing them because they need to cram so much into the cities and desert. It’s really a shame. Berber villages and the people who live there are wonderful and, as Paul has pointed out to me on several occasions, reminded us of how contented people can be with what most of us would consider so very little. Their pace of daily life along with their friendly interactions with each other as well as travelers is to be admired. Rachid is always the ultimate professional and responds quickly to our requests for stops, food or drink. He tries his best to answer our questions. His advice and admonitions are welcome. For instance, at one viewpoint high in the mountains he was particularly wary of Paul getting too close to the edge. We also had the privilege of enjoying Ratiba’s excellent cooking. She even packed a box of cookies for us for the road.
The help from you in planning (always the best!) and the extra help from Jill and Sera in the office was invaluable as our original flight with RAM from Washington was cancelled the morning we were supposed to leave due to ice and snow. Luckily, Delta in Atlanta had seats available and we arrived in good shape. But we turned to EIT for some quick changes in itinerary – including the end of the trip when I thought we were flying out on Saturday and Paul pointed out that we actually would leave on Friday. Again, thank goodness EIT was there to help with changes. It was a treat to visit the office in Fez and see Jill again. Our days began lazily and continued with a drive somewhere between here and there with a midday stop for refreshment. Coffee and pastry at a service station in the middle of nowhere with great views is my idea of a great time. The trip was everything I hoped it would be.
