I think we took over 1000 fotos! so it is a bit difficult to pick out a favorite. Our daughter cannot choose. she says everything was amazing. I love the foto of us on the stairs in Chefchaouen as a family (an idea of the amazing tour guide we had there), as well as the one of us with Youssef’s family when we visited them. (i have attached the fotos).
To answer your specific questions, these are our answers below:
- What were some highlights from your time in Morocco?
It is really hard to talk about highlights, as everyday for us was a highlight, we enjoyed it so much. The hospitality and friendliness of the Moroccon people were a highlight in itself. But what definitely stuck out was to meet and spend time with Youssef’s family. We love meeting the local people and getting to know them and their culture. The blue city definitely was a major highlight, we loved it and wouldn’t have minded to spend another night and day there. The accommodation there was the best of all of them. Spending a day in the life of a berber, making Tajine, baking bread and making almond butter, together with the whole family and the kids was definitely a highlight. We loved it!! It was really special! Another highlight and exceptional experience was the public hamam in Fes. Oh my goodness, what an experience!! That is something we will never forget! Youssef made this possible. For Tobi, our son, the highlight was the blue city and Fes, especially the leather shop where he bargained hard with the owner for a beautiful leather bag he bought himself. He enjoyed that.
- How was your driver?
We miss Youssef! 🙂 He was the best driver and companion for the trip we could have wished for. He was reliable, welcoming, considerate, very kind, generous, not pushy at all, honest and always taking care of our needs, going above and beyond to make our trip as comfortable and enjoyable as possible, even organising a touk touk in Marrakesh at the end for us so I could find the wool market I was looking for in the maze of souks. He explained a lot of things to us but never too much, he realised when we needed a break. He introduced us to local customs, like the hamam in Fes, a juice bar in Casablanca, where he invited us for juice and biscuits, and mobile coffee (which we thought was the best coffee ever). We always felt looked after, safe, cared for. We felt that he never wanted to get us somewhere to buy something but to really show us his country and the people. Absolutely amazing!! Absolutely loved meeting his wife and children and his parents. We felt that Youssef wasn’t just our driver. We really liked him as a person and clicked with him from the start. Loved his sense of humour too. Was sad to say good bye!
- How was our company’s service from initial inquiry to the moment that you left Morocco?
Matt’s comment: nothing to complain about! Fast feedback, great to have had a zoom meeting, that helped a lot. The company really met our needs and prepared us really well for the whole trip with all necessary information. Flexible itinerary was great. Friendly service from beginning to end. Everything was so well organised. We had all the information online, so the fact that the hardcopy only reached us after the trip wasn’t a problem (sending things by post to South Africa is a nightmare, takes forever to get here). It was so relaxing and special for us not to have to think about anything and have the whole trip planned for us.
- Would you recommend our company to others interested in visiting Morocco?
Yes definitely!!!! No question about it!! Maybe we will come back 🙂
Overall we loved Morocco and really hope to be back one day. We found the people to be really friendly and hospitable, and to have a lot of respect for each other. We absolutely loved the safety of the country. Jennica and me could go with a taxi on our own in Essaouira to town and we felt absolutely safe. At first we thought that the call to prayer might disturb our sleep, but this wasnt the case at all. instead, I actually miss it and really enjoyed hearing it. Our tour guides were great especially the one in Chefchaouen and in Fes. In Marrakesh we had one surprising experience in a very upmarket good restaurant, very expensive too. it was extremely hot and we drank a lot of water, not seeing that it was Evian they were serving us. (they were transparent bottles without label). I think we ended up spending 800 Dirham on just water. We were so shocked and felt quite scammed. But it was nice that Youssef had taken us to a restaurant with some European food in between as we really felt like spaghetti for a change. 🙂
