We had the time of our lives, a trip we felt was perfect, despite the normal things that happen on any trip. I will now speak for myself and let Sima give you her feedback personally. Morocco is a gorgeous, fascinating, magical country with high contrasts in landscapes, traditions, prosperity, and climate. It’s wildly colourful, extremely rich and complex in its history and cultures. There are many worlds within Morocco and it seemed to me that we got at least a taste (or an explanation) of all of them. At one point, I said to Sima “Every day is a WOW day” and honestly, I can’t think of many trips in my life that could meet that standard.
Abderrazak was a phenomenal driver and explainer of all things. He never just “called it in” — he was fully engaged and engaging, answered our questions generously, and I felt I got to see Morocco through his eyes. His English is exceptionally good. He also took wonderful care of us, was attentive and protective and always on time. He always made sure I had my cane and my sunglasses, and was perceptive about any hint that we might need anything. He was charming and enthusiastic, which set a tone for our journey and was an important part of my enjoyment of each day. He chose very good guides for us and was wonderful about making sure we got to see all the Jewish sites we hoped to visit, and then some. When we spotted one he hadn’t known about, purely by chance, he was as curious and pleased as we were. Everywhere we went, people knew him and clearly thought very well of him. I could not have wished for a better person to lead us through the country.
Highlights: The beauty, everywhere. The mountains, the desert, the towns and villages; the history of the Amazigh people; Chefchouan, Fes, Skoura (that riad – fabulous!) , Essaouira. I’m not including Marrakech here only because it was too hot to make the most of (39C, both days). As I said, nearly every day was a wow day, from beginning to end.
During the entire preparatory phase leading from our first inquiry to every aspect of our trip, I was very impressed by how responsive you and Amy were and delighted by how personable and helpful you were (also patient). I would definitely recommend your company to anyone I know thinking about Morocco; in fact, I’ve already made that recommendation to several friends who don’t even know yet that they need to go there, but I plan to fix that….
With regard to accessibility at the riads, I am grateful that you were able to book me into ground floor rooms, with one exception: the Riad L’Oussia in Essaouira. There are no ground floor rooms there and I was booked into a 2nd floor (i.e. 3rd floor as Westerners understand it.) That room was beautiful but I couldn’t climb all those stairs multiple times a day. As an alternative they offered me a room on the 1st (i.e. 2nd floor) that I was told the staff use overnight sometimes and it certainly was not appointed like the other rooms. I would have called it a 3 star room , and it was one floor up, at that. I’m not sure what went wrong there, but that was the only time I felt disappointed by my accommodation. The Iguana Azoul was also probably 3 star, but I had a lovely little ground floor room with a balcony, the staff were lovely, breakfast was fine, and it felt like the way to ‘do’ Chefchouan.
