We had fun! A wonderful experience! From our initial arrangements with friendly Ruth from Experience It Tours (even phoning her up at 04:00 in the morning – forgot all about the time difference between our countries) to meeting our driver at the airport, effective and intensive!
We booked for a 12 day tour , June/July 2015 – Casablanca, Chefchaouen, Fes to Erfoud, Boulemane and Marrakech and visits to the important towns, attractions etc. on the way.
As hobbyist photographer, the scenery did not disappoint. Chefchaouen (the blue city) was exceptional, especially after dark –passages lit up with tungsten and fluorescent causing intricate colours and shades from the blue painted walls. In the Sahara the dunes and blue skies “painted” beautiful pictures, I used all me SD cards to “capture the moment”.
Our accommodation was good.
Our first night was in Casablanca – Hotel Novotel -clean & comfortable
Chefchaouen – Dar Meziana (2 nights) – many stairs but what a view!
Fes – Riad Myra – built at the beginning of the last century, displaying the best craftsmanship (mosaic etc.) Prestigious and comfortable, suited for a king. The Riad is meticulously managed by the Chab sisters, serving gastronomic breakfasts and the best homemade yogurt.
Sahara – The “Deluxe Tent “in the desert, well equipped but very hot! ….(what did you expect?)
Boulemane – Kasbah Xaluca, beautiful swimming pool, essential with a temperature of 39 C at 22h00
Marakesh – Riad Chergui, exquisite pool and bar.
Ryad is a patient, skillful driver and we always felt safe in the vehicle. He was punctual, polite and friendly. The vehicle was clean every morning at our pickup. Ryad is not only a good driver but I don’t think we had a minute of silence in the vehicle. We chatted about everything under the sun, from the Berbers, King Mohammed VI of Morocco, traditions (we were there during Ramadan) the Atlas Mountains, the palm trees, other countries and their people, the weather to music. However, I could not impress Ryad with my “knowledge of Moroccan music” limited to Mike Batt’s Ride to Agadir.
Finding a more loyal person to his country and his employer would be difficult.
Ryad impressed us with his commitment to Ramadan, not eating and drinking anything during the day whilst we silently tucked away.
Shokran Ryad, you made our stay a memorable one, you will definitely see us again one day, Inshallah!
Thanks Ruth, Marcos and the Experience It Team!
