Cascades D’Ouzoud Waterfalls

When traveling to Morocco, many visitors expect to see plenty of sand dunes, beaches and ancient cities. From the bustling Medinas to the well-preserved ruins there is so much to do and see. If you will be spending an extended amount of time in Marrakech, you may want to consider taking a day trip to see the beautiful Cascades D’Ouzoud Waterfalls. They are located about 2.5-3 hours from Marrakech, so it does involve significant driving time. However, you can learn about the surroundings and landscape as you drive to the falls, which can make the drive enjoyable as well.

Located a little over 150km from Marrakech, you will find the Grand Atlas village of Tanghmeilt, a village that holds one of the most beautiful attractions in Morocco, the Cascades D’Ouzoud Waterfalls. The river plunges one hundred meters into a network of waterfalls. The scenery is simply breathtaking!

You will approach the falls through the Ouzoud village where you can stop and visit a selection of souvenir stalls. Once you arrive at the falls you will find there are no shortage of cafes. You may like to stop and have a hot tagine or enjoy some mint tea while looking at the beautiful scenery.

The best view is by taking the stairs (and there are quite a few!), but once you have climbed down all the steps you will understand. The steps bring you to the base of the falls which is littered with pools. Even though there are many no swimming signs, the locals all enjoy a splash on a hot summer’s day.

There are also little boats that will take you out into the pools. The pools are easy enough to cross by foot, but it can be a fun experience to enjoy a boat ride! You can sit alongside one of the pools, let your feet hang in the water and just soak up the magnificent beauty of these falls in an area that is filled with sandstone, golden dunes and dusty roads.
