The Cascades D’Ouzoud Waterfalls
When traveling to Morocco you expect to see plenty of sand dunes, beaches and ancient cities. From the bustling Medina’s to the well-preserved ruins there is so much to do and see when touring Morocco, one of the sights that shouldn’t be missed is the spectacular beauty of the Ouzoud Waterfalls.
Only 150km from Marrakesh you will find the Grand Atlas village of Tanghmeilt, a village that holds one of the most beautiful attractions in Morocco, the Cascades D’Ouzoud Waterfalls. The river plunges one hundred meters into a network of waterfalls, the sound is deafening and yet soothing and the scenery is simply breath taking.
You will approach the falls through the Ouzoud village where you can stop and visit a selection of souvenir stalls. Once you arrive at the falls you will find there are no shortage of cafes.
The best view is by taking the stairs and there are a lot of them, but once you have climbed down all the steps you will understand why. The steps bring you to the base of the falls which is littered with pools. Even though there are many no swimming signs, the locals all enjoy a splash on a hot summers day.
There are also little boats that will take you out into the pools, though they are easy to cross by foot, it’s the experience that you are after. You can sit alongside one of the pools, let your feet hang in the water and just soak up the magnificent beauty of these falls in an area that is filled with sandstone, golden dunes and dusty roads.
You could almost say these falls are an oasis in a hot and arid area, they are definitely worth the visit and is an enjoyable day trip if you are staying in Marrakesh.
