Tunisia - Classic Tour
8 Days / 7 Nights
DAY 1: TUNIS / ARRIVAL
Upon arrival in Tunis, the capital of Tunisia, you will be met and transferred to your hotel. After checking in, dinner will be served at the hotel.

DAY 2: CARTHAGE / SIDI BOU SAID
After breakfast, the group departs for a visit to the Bardo Museum. This museum is well known for its large collection of intricate mosaics and vestiges of the greatest civilizations known in Tunisian history. After the museum visit, we continue to the medina, (the old walled city), where we explore the “souk”, or traditional market. This market is colored by many products of skilled North African craftsman, such as copper, leather, wool, and beautifully woven carpets. After lunch in the mid-afternoon, we visit the ancient archaeological site of Carthage, once the largest city in northern Africa. This site holds ruins from many eras of history, such as the Punic, Roman, Vandal and Byzantine eras. We then continue to the quaint village of Sidi Bou Said located on several hills overlooking the Mediterranean Sea. We explore its beautifully paved lanes and many breathtaking sea views.

DAY 3: KAIROUAN / SBEITLA
After breakfast, our tour will depart for Kairouan. Kairouan is a city known for its mosques and world famous carpet making craft industry. The grand mosque Okba Ibn Nafaa, and the mausoleum of the barber companion of the prophet Mohamed, are two of the city's famous religious sites. We also visit a carpet making workshop to learn how carpets are designed and handmade. After lunch our tour heads to the archaeological site of Sbeitla. This site presents well preserved ruins such as temples, beautiful baptisteries, a thermal complex, a triumphal arch and forts dating back to the Byzantine period. Sbeitla also hosts an original antiquities museum to display excavated objects.

DAY 4: CHEBIKA / MIDES / TOZEUR
After breakfast our tour will set out for the mountain oases of Chebika, Tamerza, and Mides. There we will have time to hike through the oasis area and enjoy the beautiful scenery of these
amazing desert springs, not far from Algeria. After lunch we visit the “Ong Gamel” or “neck of the camel” among the sand dunes, and the desert site of one of the Star Wars films.

DAY 5: KEBILI / DOUZ / MATMATA
After breakfast we cross the dry salt lake of Chiot El Djerid. When arriving at Douz there is an optional activity of a camel ride from Zaafrane into the Sahara desert. This part of Tunisia is well known for the unique Berber people who dwelt here for many years before the Arabs came. Matmata boasts the Berber troglodyte housing where Berber people open their homes for visitors to have a cup of tea.

DAY 6: EL DJEM / PORT EL KANTAOUI / SOUSSE
After breakfast our tour will depart for El Djem, where we will explore one of the world's best preserved Roman Coliseums. Afterward we continue to the seaside touristic cities of Sousse and Port El Kantaoui. The ancient medina of Sousse is well known for its historic fortress and high look-out tower, as well as its amazing souks. Port El Kantaoui hosts a beautiful marina.

DAY 7 : CATACOMBS/ TUNIS
Take a slow morning to prepare for a visit to the catacombs, graves of about 15000, mostly Christian, from the 4th and 5th century. Plan to arrive in Tunis in the late afternoon. Your hotel in Tunis is right on the main avenue and a stone throw away from the old Medina.

DAY 8: TUNIS / DEPARTURE
After breakfast, you will be transferred by bus to the airport for departure.
