Best BBQ at Marrakech Square

So one of my favorite experiences in Marrakech is heading down to the Jemaa El-fna, the famous square. The square truly comes alive at night…not with tourists…but with locals out to enjoy the stories, music and entertainment. At first look, the square can be very intimidating but it is well worth a visit.

Number 81
Over the years, I have tested a number of the barbecue stands at the square and #81 has been my favorite. The guys who serve are super friendly and they take good care of you. You might want to order some brochettes (shishkabab) or try one of the many other options on display. One thing to remember is that each both usually specializes in something, so if you just want soup or steamed goat, you will need to try another booth.

Fresh Orange Juice
The other thing to try is the fresh squeezed orange juice. Continue Reading

3 Must Do’s in Morocco

I love talking to our clients and hearing from them what their favorite part of Morocco was; I get such a wide variety of answers. Today, I am going to give you 3 of my “must do’s” of Morocco. You may want to ad them to your Morocco tour.

Day in the Life of a Berber
About 120km from Marrakech is a small berber village and home of Mohammed. Mohammed runs a small program called “The Day in the Life of a Berber.”. This day excursion or overnight excursion, is perfect for those wishing to experience more of the culture. Mohammed and his family allow others to experience a little of their life. From learning to make mint-tea to baking bread in the clay oven, you spend your time in a hands-on experience. Continue Reading

Great Breakfast Cafe in Fes

If you’re looking for an alternative from the hotel for eating breakfast in Fes, there’s a great place called Cafe Adan! Cafe Adan is known for their delicious chocolate croissants that have both chocolate inside as well as drizzled on top!…Yum! If you’re not a chocolate lover, there are other croissant options such as almond, orange, or cheese. Some prefer the unique tastes of the homemade malawi or harsha with olives and spices. And for those who are brave and like to taste new things, you can be served up plate of fried eggs mixed with the famous dried meat in lard. A variety of drinks are also served at Cafe Adan from fresh squeezed orange juice, to coffee and cappuccinos, to local mint tea, British black tea, or hot chocolate. The price is incredibly reasonable, and another bonus is that both men and women are welcome at this particular cafe. We would highly recommend Cafe Adan as a great breakfast spot with both outdoor and indoor seating!

Morocco Travel for Families

Are you looking for a special trip for your family? Morocco is an excellent choice for family travelers. While living in Morocco for 10 years, my kids loved to travel around and see the country. Morocco allows families to experience a new culture, people, and environment in a safe way.

Family Fun
If you are looking for a trip that is just filled with fun, Morocco offers places like the Sahara Desert…jumping in the 4×4 vehicles, playing in the sand dunes, and camel trekking. The night in the berber tents was always a highlight for my family.

Family Learning
Perhaps you want your kids to have a more educational experience. Morocco is packed with historical sites, cultural activities and more. From guided tours to “The Day in the Life of a Berber”, Morocco has something for all. My kids love to take pictures and journal their trips…a fun way to learn and remember. Continue Reading

April Tours – Spring in Morocco

People always ask me what is the best time of year to travel to Morocco. My quick response is always Spring and Fall…but to be more specific…I love April.

April tours to Morocco offer the beauty of spring, yet the warm of the coming summer. The flowers of Morocco are in bloom and the weather is perfect. Not too hot…but not too cold. Sometimes you may get a little rain, but I think it is well worth it.

April is one of the highest seasons of the year, especially around the Easter school breaks. Continue Reading

Trips in Morocco

When I think of Trips in Morocco, I think of two things: Excursion Trips inside of Morocco and full tour packages in Morocco. From our experience, Morocco offers excellent choices for either of these.

Excursion Trips
There are a number of great excursions in Morocco depending on where you are starting from. From those staying in Marrakech, you may want to consider a day excursion into the High Atlas Mountains up to the Urika Valley. Experience life in the Berber mountains! If you are looking for a coastal excursion, you may want to head east to Essaouira. Continue Reading

Climbing in Morocco

Someone just recently asked me if there was rock climbing in Morocco. The answer is “Yes!” For those who are looking for some good climbing, you might want to consider heading over the High Atlas Mountains to the Todra Gorges. These rock walls are perfect for climbing! You can either create your own route up the wall or you can follow one of the routes left behind by a previous rock climber.

From what I understand, most rock climbers like to just grab their gear and head out into the wild to climb. For those looking to climb Morocco, you might want to hook up with a rock climbing company to assist you in your climbing adventure. I have some friends who just moved to Marrakech to start a Morocco rock climbing business. They have launched a new website called Climb Moroccco…it is worth a visit for those interested in Morocco rock climbing. Continue Reading
